Well…they can’t all be pretty. The Tigers held on to win another game their seventh in a row. After falling behind 1-0 Detroit roared back to take a 7-1 lead in the third inning. Pittsburgh kept battling and Detroit managed to hang on for a hard fought 7-6 victory. Kenny Rogers struggled and wasn’t able to make it far enough in the game for the win despite the seven runs of support. Rogers only retired one batter in the fifth and allowed five runs. Roman Colon did a nice job getting out of the fifth and pitching the sixth for his first victory of the year. Zumaya gave up one run over two innings, but got his 19th hold. Todd Jones made sure of the victory picking up his 21st save. Detroit got to Kip Wells early, as he couldn’t make it through the third and gave up all three runs. The Pirates bullpen did a nice job keeping the Tigers in check the rest of the way. Thames and Shelton hit back-to-back homers in the second inning power surge. Detroit added four more runs in the third getting a RBI from Ordonez and two from Guillen on a triple. Carlos later scored on a wild pitch. From there the situation took a turn for the worse, but the Tigers did enough to hold of the Pirates rally. *** OEs 3 Stars of the Game *** #3 Roman Colon – Win (1), #2 Chris Shelton – 1-2 with a run scored, 2 BBs, a HR and one RBI #1 Marcus Thames- 2-3 with a run scored, 1 BB, a HR and 2 RBI On Tap – Game 81 (55-25) @ Pittsburgh Pirates (27-54) July 1st, 7:05 ET Jeremy Bonderman (7-4, 3.65) v.
